The District of Columbia wants to have representatives in Congress. This will be short. What state do they live in?

I understand what you're getting at, but are you saying that DC can be taxed as a state without have a representative? If so, then are you saying you support Taxation without Representation?
ReplyDeleteDidn't that cause a certain Revolutionary war?
There is a reason D.C. isn't in a state. They should not add Reps or Senators. They also cannot wave Federal taxes for the city because the Constitution explicitly forbids taxing one group and not another. It would seem the only real solution is to not have official residence of the city. I admit it is a strange situation and a strange problem. I mean the solution could be as simple as acknowledging that if you live in D.C. you are sacrificing representatives in the congress. If it is that much of an issue, they can move. State laws don't apply there, so it should be the most free place in the US. Even the Drinking age would have to be a city ordinance. It is an interesting situation. In order to give representation D.C. would have to be made a state. I will be interested in seeing how the liberals throw out all foundations of freedom and the American Republic to stop the citizens of D.C. from crying.
ReplyDeleteThey really should just make residence of people in DC in Maryland or Virginia.
ReplyDeleteOh, and to reply to Stan: they are not taxed as a state they are taxed as US residents. Federal taxes come mainly from individuals. Income, Excise taxes like alcohol taxes and Gas taxes. They also have the availability to reap the social programs for which those taxes pay.
