Plagued by Whiners
Blizzard put out another plague in their game World of Warcraft. Read the article to find out what the plague did, I don't really care. A lot of players got upset that their characters were dying and started complaining that they thought it was unfair. Poor babies. Why play a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game if not to see interesting changes with a large environment. You don't see rpg players sending square enix nasty letters because they just got hit with a silent spell and they thought it wasn't cool. Waah.

As a World of Warcraft player (which you most certainly are not) I can see what the complaint means, as I too was hit with this plague. It basically turns you into a zombie after two minutes and makes anyone you touch turn into a zombie. It's kinda neat, and would be fun, if only it didn't happen (And really ONLY happens) in the large city areas, which are usually considered a place to relax and grind some skills or chat and sell crap.
ReplyDeleteBut to go there and just get killed, have to walk back to your corpse, only to be zombified and killed again, it's not only really time-consuming, but after the five time or so, just annoying. Bonus, it works on NPC's too...so say there is a guy you really need to talk to in town, well too bad, he has been turned into a zombie. And it takes 10 minutes or so for the NPC to respawn. Now, it may be apparent that if you are playing WoW, you have a bit of time to kill, but when something as everyday as selling something at the auction house becomes an almost impossible task (because the auctioneers have been turned into zombies) then the fun of the game becomes downright trite.
I know what you mean by the Final fantasy reference, but come on, that's a one-player game compared to a MMORPG...and silence can be reversed with an Echo Grass or Esuna while if you get "plagued" in WoW, you have DROP what you were doing, run to the King of that town (That's where the ONLY zombie reversing magistrate is located)and have him heal you (You only have 2 minutes, so make it quick!) before turning into a Zombie and then just being boned, because then every guard in the town will swarm (they are all level 65 and above with the cap being 70, so boned you are) and kill you dead, thus forcing you to walk back to your corpse and trying the whole process (I just wanted to buy some food!) all over again.
It sounds like a fun idea, and upon experience, it gets old. I think your apparent ignorance on the matter though shone by making a FF reference with it, though. I like all FF games now, don't get my wrong, but if I am going to pay $15 a month to be pestered by flesh-eaters inside what is supposed to be a safety zone, I may want to log off and wait til the flesh-feast is done before continuing on.
Touche my good sir, however, I think it adds a touch of realism to a game that intends to take fantasy to a new level. If a plague hits town then everyone is boned, including NPCs (government workers? not sure on an irl reference).
